Our theme this year is ‘Prevention – Between Ethics and Effectiveness’ and our keynotes and special sessions, in a hybrid format, will focus on discussing the challenges of being both effective and ethical in prevention.

Different aspects of ethical prevention will be explored, such as if prevention or doing prevention is always ethical, what is prevention allowed to do, how ethical aspects can affect the strategic communication about interventions, and what can science learn from practice about interventions.

Learn more about Estonia

Every corner of Estonia is different. At the same time, everything is delightfully compact: a few hours will get you from one end of the country to another, and you can quickly swap the mainland for an island, or the bustle of the city for a forest lake.

Tours

On the evening of September 29, you will have the opportunity to participate in one of our four guided walking tours introducing different regions of Tallinn. Each tour lasts about 1.5–2 hours and ends in an appropriately themed café or restaurant, where refreshments will be provided, giving you the chance to sample some local flavours. The tour and refreshments will be free of charge. If you wish, you can also stay and enjoy dinner at the restaurant of your choice at your own expense.

Why this theme?

Prevention science has gained more recognition in Estonia and the rest of Europe in the past years. At the same time, some challenges affect the implementation of high-quality prevention. Understanding the value of prevention is considered essential, particularly while aiding people at risk of developing a health problem. Although most professionals are sufficiently qualified in their respective fields, they often lack the support and training needed to effectively promote and provide prevention interventions.

The conference will help to:

  • illustrate the value of prevention
  • contribute to prevention advocacy in Estonia
  • raise the quality of prevention in Estonia
  • communicate the latest developments in prevention science
  • support networking between European practitioners and scientists.
